Home The scope for mycology in Africa is vast and many exciting opportunities for research and collaboration exist. The African Mycological Association (AMA) promotes mycology and contact between members in Africa and other international mycologists. Regional and international congresses are also promoted through the AMA. The roots of the AMA date back to the second International Mycology Congress (IMC2) in Tampa when the idea of developing mycology in Africa was initially proposed. Hence CODMA (Committee for the Development of Mycology in Africa) was launched in 1987 and in 1990 the first African Mycology Conference (RMC1) was held in Reduit, Mauritius. In 1992, the second Regional Mycology Conference (RMC2) was held in Egypt and the idea of an African Mycological Association (AMA) was hatched. The African Mycological Association was founded in 1995 during the third African Mycology Conference (RMC3) in Harare, Zimbabwe, and represented one regional body responsible for developing mycology in Africa. More regional meetings followed after that.
